Dorothy was born September 21, 1927, in Gatesville to Joe William and Lottie Prosise Taylor. She grew up in Waco and attended Waco High School. On March 4, 1944, she married Richard S. Townsend. They lived in Waco most of their married life except for a few years in Clifton and Beaumont. She served her Lord and her family diligently wherever she was. She had a beautiful voice and sang in her church choirs and in the Baylor Senior Choir. For many years she taught Sunday school at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Waco, and First Baptist Church, Robinson.
In 2015, she moved to Clifton and rekindled old friendships and made many new friends. Momma Dot, as she was affectionately known, loved sewing, reading, and visiting with her family and friends. She gave her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends quilts that she made with love!
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and her husband of 65 years, Richard.
She is survived by four sons and one daughter, Bart and wife, Betty of Clifton, Rick and wife, Ginny of Mart, David and wife, Melinda of Woodway, Michael of Waco, and Kandy and husband, Wes Reese of Corsicana. 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention!
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
