Lynn Fickett Leighton Hill:
Mom took her final journey to her Lord, due to complications from a stroke on August 23, 2018, in the house in which she was born with her daughter Sandie and her friend of 80 years, Rachel Hamilton, holding her hands. Mom was born May 14, 1927 to Lena and Roe Fickett. She went on to live a full and very busy life. After high school she attended Nason College in Sanford studying sewing, which lead her to sewing for many people over the decades. While sewing she also worked for Cassidy Shoe Store and the Sew-Fun Store in Calais.
Her Lord and her church were very important to her, and for many years she was a member of the United Methodist Women and a past president. Mom was involved in church suppers and a host of other events.
She is survived by her sister Betty Welch and her family; stepdaughter, Cindy Fent and her five children; daughter and caregiver Sandie Newman; daughters, Noreen and husband Tom Sawyer and Laura and husband Paul Urquhart; sons Tom and wife Becky Leighton and Bill and wife Linda Leighton; 10 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and her church family, all of whom were very important to her.
Meeting her in heaven are her parents, Lena and Roe Fickett; brother Carl Fickett; grandson Brian Turner; the father of her children, John Leighton; and her second husband George Hill.
Please join us for a celebration of Mom's life on September 1, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Baileyville. There will be a social time at 12 noon with a service at 1 p.m. officiated by Mom's good friend, John Gallant. There will be a luncheon downstairs after we return from the committal service at the cemetery.
We would like to thank some very special people in Mom's life - Dr. Peter Wilkinson, with whom she had much trust, Rachel Hamilton, Christine Dickey, Linda Logan, Neomi Leighton and her daughter Laura. Without these people, simple trips to the post office, grocery store, doctor appointments or the occasional time off for Sandie would have sometimes have been impossible, and to the wonderful ladies of New Hope Hospice who made Mom comfortable during the last month of her life.
In lieu of flowers Mom would be happy that her friends and family would donate to the United Methodist Women c/o Rachel Hamilton P. O. Box 744, Baileyville, ME 04694 or Methodist Church Youth Group c/o Rhonda Oakes, 1332 Airline Road, Alexander, ME 04694.
