Roy Lachlison Gordon, Jr. passed away in Atlanta on September 14, 2017 at the age of eighty. Roy was born and grew up in Savannah and was a second-generation practitioner in the field of real estate and appraisal. After graduating from the University of Florida, he embarked on a very successful real estate career in Savannah which culminated in the commercial real estate brokerage and appraisal firm of Gordon & Simmons, Inc. with Roy’s long-term partner Elliott B. Simmons, Jr. Roy moved to Atlanta, Ga around 1980 to assume Southeast regional responsibilities for the Cushman & Wakefield Appraisal Division and served in that capacity for
approximately 25 years. Roy held both the CRE and MAI designations and made innumerable contributions to these professional organizations and the overall real estate appraisal profession through serving as officer/board member on a local and regional basis including President of the Savannah Board of Realtors and Savannah Area Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and publishing many articles for professional trade journals. The Atlanta Area Chapter of the Appraisal Institute awarded Roy the Legion of Leaders Award for his lifelong dedication to the organization and appraisal profession. Roy was known for his unselfish dedication and patience and served as a mentor for innumerable young professionals who embarked upon successful real estate appraisal careers. Roy’s professional practice was characterized by precision, consistency, reliability and an absolute dedication to the highest ethical and professional standards over the entire course of his career.
