Harry Richard Peterson, formerly of Delafield, passed away at Shorehaven Health and Rehab in Oconomowoc on Monday, August 27, 2018, where he resided for the past three years.

Harry was born to Nels and Marie (Nee Makie) Peterson on September 24, 1920 in Hibbing, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Peshtigo, WI. Harry worked with the family on their dairy farm until Pearl Harbor Day on December 7, 1941, at which time he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of Ninth Air Force flying C47's serving in the European Theater. He was a Crew Chief on the flight crew and later became Flight Chief and attained the rank of Master Sargent. His crew carried paratroopers on the "D" Day invasion of Normandy. Harry was discharged from the Air Force on October 30, 1945.

After discharge, Harry attended the University of Wisconsin in River Falls and graduated in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Agriculture and Science. Later he received a Master's Degree from UW-Whitewater. He was a Biology teacher for 34 years at Ethan Allen State School for Boys.

On August 15, 1953, Harry was united in marriage to Dorothy (Nee Timm) Pagel at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc. Harry served on the church council for several years and taught Sunday School. He was a proud member of Delafield Legion Post 196 and served on Shorehaven's Executive Board.

Harry and his wife were avid travelers, especially after retirement. They visited all 50 states as well as making several trips overseas.

Besides his wife Dorothy, Harry is survived by his son, Duane (Sharon) Peterson of Delafield; daughter in law D. Sarah Peterson of Richmond, Virginia; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Harry is preceded in death by his parents; 2 uncles Harry and Alton Peterson, his infant son Harry Jr.; son Dr. Gene Peterson; his brother Warren (Margaret) Peterson of Peshtigo; 9 brother and sister-in-laws and their spouses, and 2 nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 8, 2018 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church 210 E. Pleasant St. in Oconomowoc. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 am until time of service at 11 am, followed by Military Honors. A luncheon will be served at the church and burial will be held at Delafield City Cemetery on the corner of Poplar Path and Genesee Street at 2:30 pm. Please meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Church to benefit the youth are appreciated.
