Hallie Rose Maupin Yates, 98, former long-time resident of
Perryton, died Sunday, August 26, 2018 in Amarillo after a brief
illness.

Hallie was born November 21, 1919 in Clifton, AZ to Oscar and
Kristine Hvidberg Maupin. Her father was a laborer and later a civil
engineer for the Arizona Highway Department and the family
moved many times as new roads and highways were being built
throughout the state. They lived in tents at remote camp sites, tourist
courts and on occasion a house if the job took long enough.

After their mother died in 1935, she and her brother went to live
with an aunt in El Paso, TX, where she graduated from El Paso High
School in May of 1938. She married Terry Cecil Yates on December
3, 1938 in El Paso. Two daughters were born to this marriage while
they were living in California. The family moved from El Paso to
Perryton in 1949.

Hallie was a lover of life, of family and of friends. She never tired of
the beauty of nature and never lost her sense of wonderment for this
world or for learning new things. She was an avid gardener and was
involved with the Perryton Garden Club for many years. She loved
to play cards and spent many hours playing Wahoo! back in the day.
A suitcase was always packed as she loved to travel seeing new
sights and visiting family and friends.

She worked at a number of jobs including house and office cleaning,
babysitting and housesitting and instilled in her daughters that hard
work made you strong. She was the manager and floral designer of
the flower shop at Boxwell Brothers for many years. When the shop
closed she went to Ochiltree General Hospital as a Medicare Clerk
and worked there until her retirement in 1996 at the age of 75.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry, a daughter,
Kristine May Miller and her beloved brother, Ben Cravey.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann and husband Weldon Prichard of Amarillo. Two granddaughters, Miranda Miller and husband
Eugene Munoz and Mary Miller and husband Richard Kidwell all of
Perryton. She was Granny to six great-grandchildren and twelve
great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her nephew, Ben
Cravey and wife Debra of Grapevine, TX, Neal Cravey and wife
Christy of Longview, TX and niece Irene Cravey of Round Rock,
TX.

Visitation will be Friday, August 31 from 6 to 8 in the evening at
Boxwell Brothers in Perryton. Graveside services will be at 11:00
am on Saturday, September 1 at Ochiltree Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to the Museum of
the Plains in Perryton or to a favorite charity.
