He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years June Roepe Aiken; four sons John Gayle (Adele), David Wyatt Jr., M.D. (Marilyn), Wyatt Bruns (Patricia), Thomas Holcomb (Christine); two daughters Lydia Carolyn Chesnutt and Suzanne Sherwood Fonger (Curt); sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Dr. Aiken retired from the US Air Force where he was a flight surgeon. Lt. Col. Aiken was a member of many military organizations. He was also active in many civic and social organizations.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Orleans Mission: by mail New Orleans Mission – Donor Services, 1129 Baronne Street, New Orleans, LA 70113 or online neworleansmission.org/donate-2/ where Dr. Aiken was a founding member.
