The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Rita Ballard at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 20,1987, at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids with the Rev. E.V. Carpenter as celebrant. Interment was in the Annunciation Cemetery with Robert Nelson, Raymond L. Chipman, Dave Thomas, John Thomas, Kenneth Hoffman and John E. Hoffman serving as casket bearers. Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of arrangements.Rita Ballard; the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Miller) Moylan, was born on August 5, 1907, at Coon Rapids, Iowa. She passed from this life on April 16, 1987, at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, having attained the age of 79 years, eight months and 11 days. After Rita completed her education in Coon Rapids, she taught country school. On November 18, 1929, she was united in marriage to Grant Ballard in Coon Rapids, Iowa. They resided in Coon Rapids and then Cedar Falls, Iowa, before moving to Minneapolis, Mn., where Rita worked at the McDavitt Hauge Funeral Home and St. Mary's Hospital. After moving to the Harlan area, she was employed by Pauley Funeral Home. She became a resident of the Baptist Memorial Home in Harlan in November of 1986. Rita was a former member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids, Iowa, and has been an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Harlan. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by one sister, Mary Noehren of Harlan, other relatives and many friends.
