John J. Barney was born Aug. 31, 1808 in Savoy, Berkshire, Massachusetts. He was son of William Barney III & Mercy Crapo Barney. He died April 16, 1865 in Hartford, Washington Co., Wis.
He married Adalina A. Knox Barney on
Sept. 24, 1837 in Lewis Co., New York.

Son of William Barney (1763-1834) and Mercy Crapo Barney (1765-1841). John Barney married Adaline Augusta (Knox) Barney and had the following children:

William Knox Barney (1839-1875) m. Emma Hathaway (1856-1927), they died In Madison, WI.
John Jay Barney (1843-1863) Killed in the Battle of Champion Hill.
