Sam Clark, 87, of Oceana entered Heaven’s gates Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Bower’s Hospice House following an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Sam was a member of Oceana United Methodist Church, where he served as a former trustee.

Born August 18, 1931, he was the son of late Columbus "C.C." Clark (1908-Deceased) and Rhoda Webb-Clark (1908-1967). In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his son, Barry Lyndon Clark (1959-2008); sister, Sharon Clark-Blackburn (Deceased); and brothers-in-law, Arnold Lewis Brown (1928-2012), Otis Bailey (Deceased) and Denzil Blackburn (Deceased).

Sam attended Oceana High School and Concord College, where he won many awards and citations for his basketball skills. He proudly served in the US Army. In 1955, Mr. Clark lead Europe in the scoring divisional level basketball competition.

He was a past member and President of Oceana Rotary Club. He was a former member of Oceana Area Chamber of Commerce and a longtime sponsor of Oceana Little League. He considered being chosen as a founding member of Oceana Hall of Fame a great honor, as he dearly loved the Town of Oceana.

Mr. Clark was a former teacher and basketball coach at Glen Rogers High School from 1958 to 1961. He taught at Oceana High School from 1961 to 1962.

Sam was privileged, in 1962, to be hired as an agent for State Farm Insurance. He held this position until his retirement in 2012. He was honored and humbled to have served the people of Oceana and surrounding areas for fifty years. Retiring at age 80, he loved and respected each one of his clients. Being a true entrepreneur and businessman, Mr. Clark leaves a giant legacy of honesty and integrity to the Oceana area.

Sam was a founder and first President of Oceana National Bank, now First Community Bank. He served fourteen years as Chairman of the Board for Castle Rock Bank, Pineville, WV. He was a former board member of First Community, Princeton, WV and FCFT Holding Co. (parent company of First Community Bank). He was the owner of the former Country Junction Co, Inc, Real Estate.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Suzanne Fisher-Clark (B. 1941) whom he married on June 4, 1957 in Princeton, Mercer County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1957, Page 37, Application Date: June 1, 1957); daughter, Rebecca Clark-Blankenship & husband David Blankenship of Oceana; grandchildren, Shannon Lynch & husband Roy Lynch of Daniels, Sean Miller of Charlottesville VA, Shane Miller and wife Krista Miller of Oceana; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynch, Jacob Lynch, Keaton Miller, Zakk, Ariel, Vada and Seth Miller; sisters, Doris Clark-Brown-Browning (B. 1937) & husband Curtis Browning, and Charlotte Clark-Massey; brothers, Charles Clark & wife Brenda Clark and Leonard Clark; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services celebrating the life of Sam Clark will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Oceana United Methodist Church, Cook Parkway, Oceana. Entombment will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
