Joyce Barber Stringer, 96, passed away peacefully in her home on August 24, 2018, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Born November 19, 1921, to Owen and Ida Barber in Washington, Indiana, Joyce graduated from Washington High School. She married Roy Franklin Stringer on March 28, 1942, before he left to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and they were married for 70 years. When Roy returned, they moved to Indianapolis, where she raised their seven children.

Joyce was a devoted wife and mother. She especially loved family gatherings, caring for her grandchildren, sharing family meals, and spending time at Heritage Lake. Her favorite time of year was celebrating Christmas with her large family.

She was also an active member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Joyce joyfully served in several church ministries, including Sunday School, Bible School, the Thrift Shop, and the United Methodist Women, and avidly shared her love of Jesus with her family. She enjoyed taking care of flowers in the garden and volunteered for the Wayne Township parents association.

Memorial donations can be made to Heaven's Cupboard, a Mt. Olive UMC ministry, 1449 S. High School Road, Indianapolis, In 46241, or online at mount-olive.org/heavens-cupboard.
