Officer Ricardo “Rico” Jesus Silva, Jr., also known as “Jesse”, of Bush, LA passed away on Saturday evening, August 25, 2018, due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. A car turned left in front of him on Old Military Road (LA 1082) and his 2017 Honda motorcycle crashed into the right side of the car, and he was ejected. He was born on March 15, 1992 in Munster, IN to Ricardo J. Silva, Sr. and Melissa Rivera Fredenrich. Rico was 26 years old.

Rico is survived by his fiancé Taylor Stevens; his mother and stepfather Tim Fredenrich; his father and his stepmother Betty Silva; and his eleven brothers and sisters Jennifer Rivera, Joshua Wilson, Jeremiah Owens, Andrew Silva, John Silva (Hailey), Samuel Silva, Christopher Silva, Joseph Silva, Abigail Silva, Gabriella Silva, and Isabella Silva. He is also survived by his grandmothers Betty Rivera and Alva Silva and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss him dearly.

Rico is preceded in death by his grandfathers William Rivera, Sr. and Jose Silva and his aunt Sarah Gedda.

Rico grew up in Portage, IN and graduated from Portage High School in 2011. He worked security with Lakes of the Four Seasons and he was a Reserve Officer with Hobart Police Department. He then began his career in Law Enforcement in Indiana with the City of Crown Point Police Department. Rico and Taylor moved to Louisiana and settled in Bush. He then attended and graduated from New Orleans Police Academy Class 180, and became an officer with the New Orleans 5th District in 2017. Taylor and Rico were engaged the day he graduated from the Police Academy and were to be married this November.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 6:00 PM with visitation on Thursday beginning at 3:00 PM.
