Lois Hammel went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on April 14th after a brief illness.
Lois was born on August 23, 1932 in Spokane to Charles and Gladys Morton. Lois graduated in 1950 from John Rogers High School where she met and married her husband James F. (Bud) Hammel Jr. Bud later joined the military and they and their children traveled to many places until he retired in the mid-seventies and resettled back in Spokane. After four of her children were grown, Lois went to work at the Spokane Coliseum.
Since the early '90s, Lois and Bud had been snowbirds-enjoying winters in Yuma, AZ. Lois loved the warmth and sunshine and spending time playing cards and doing other activities with her retired friends in Arizona.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved first-born son Michael James Hammel in 2014, and by her younger brother George Morton.
Lois is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bud Hammel; their four children, Sharon Bays, Steve Hammel (Cheri), Patty Toft (Ken), and Scott Hammel; her daughter-in-law Jamie and grandchildren Danae, Iain, Chris, Mike, Rick, Lindsey, David, Emilee, Joey, Allison, and Maia and many great-grandchildren and nieces, and nephews. Lois is also survived by her sister Joy Charlene Rooney Nance and her husband Al.
Her memorial will be on Saturday, April 28th at 2:00pm at Open Heart Chapel, 4123 N. Monroe, Spokane, WA 99205.
