August G. Schmidt, 88, a butcher shop owner for 37 years, died Thursday, February 15, at his home at 711 Maple Street in Chilton after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 28, 1891 in the town of New Holstein, a son of Franz and Augusta Schmidt. His married to Vera Prahl took place May 8, 1917 in Kiel. Mr. Schmidt retired from the butcher business in 1960.
He was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton, the Christian Circle Club, Lutheran Laymen’s League and the Senior Citizens Club. He was former member of the Chamber of Commerce and the volunteer fire department.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ozzie (Bernice) Ries of Beaver Dam and Mrs. Richard (Audrey) Kantin of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Arthur Schmidt of Kaukauna; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A sister and six brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Monday, at St. Martin Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Novotney, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.
