Like her parents, Linda attend Butler University in Indianapolis. Also following in her mother’s footsteps, Linda decided to study elementary education so she could pursue her passion of teaching and making an impact on the lives of children. It was at Butler where she met and fell in love with Canfield “Buddy” Boone.
After graduating in 1970, Linda and Buddy married in August and Linda began her teaching career. She taught elementary school until 1978 when she gave birth to her first son, Christopher. Two more sons -- Andrew and Jason -- followed in 1980 and 1983 keeping Linda busy as a full-time mom. She enjoyed attending and videotaping her three sons sports events and spent every summer with her family and parents at Coldwater Lake in Michigan.
In 1991, the family moved to Northern Virginia after Buddy’s military transfer, and Linda resumed her teaching career in 1993 teaching second grade at Virginia Run Elementary School, quickly establishing lifelong friendships with her teaching colleagues. Her family’s traditions and gatherings continued even as her three sons moved away from the home.
Linda’s life was upended shortly after her youngest son, Jason, left for college in 2001. The September 11 attacks on the Pentagon claimed Buddy’s life and Linda was forced to care for her family while grieving the loss of her husband. She happily celebrated the marriages of her three sons (Chris and Amy in 2003; Andy and Michele in 2005; Jason and Jess in 2013).
Linda loved dancing and traveling with her longtime companion, Dave Neveln, and visiting with her friends in Virginia, Florida and Michigan.
Linda’s first grandchild, Madilyn, was born in 2007. And was followed by twin granddaughters, Abby and Lily, in 2010, and two grandsons -- Michael in 2012 and Malcolm in 2017.
Even though Linda was burdened by health issues, she always made time and effort to be a loving mother, mother-in-law and “Baba.”
Family will receive guests on Tuesday, August 28, from 5-8pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA 20170. Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, August 29, at Centreville Presbyterian Church, 15450 Lee Highway, Centreville, VA 20120 officiated by Rev. J. Robin Bromhead. Linda will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at future date.
