Boy, 10, Killed While Playing Near Oil Well
Thermopolis (AP) -- A ten year old Grafton, N.D. boy was fatally injured Friday when he was struck by a heavy weight on an oil well pumping machine.
The boy, Don Ness, was playing around the pumping machine at a well at the Grass Creek oil field and got too close to the weighted arm of the pump. He was knocked clear of the well.
Two carpenters working on a house nearby heard his moaning and found the lad. He died enroute to the Thermopolis hospital.
The boy came here to spend the summer with his father, Norman Ness, who was employed by a drilling firm at the field. He had gone to the field with his father for the day.
He lived with his grandmother Mrs. Emma Ness at Grafton.
