DAVID LEE STARKEY, 66, of Smith Township, Whitley County, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007, 8:30 p.m., at his residence. Born Feb. 13,1941, at Wolf Lake, Noble County, he was the son of Roy and Loena (Egolf) Starkey. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the Class of 1959 and served with the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965, during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Patty A. Hoffman on July 9, 1966, in Columbia City. He spent his entire lifetime in Whitley County. From 1972 to 1978, he owned Churubusco Elevator and from 1978 to 1986, he worked at Raber Elevator, rural Columbia City, as general manager. Since 1986 until present, he was the owner and insurance agent with David Starkey Associates. He was a member of Columbia City American Legion Post 98. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty A. Starkey of Columbia City; four sons, Dennis Wayne Palmer of Pierceton, Jeffrey Starkey of Goshen, David Alan Starkey of Columbia City, and Greg Lynn (Kristin) Starkey of Noblesville; one daughter, Michelle (Jim) Cull of Columbia City; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, John, Russell (Molly) and Bud (Jeanne) Starkey, all of Wolf Lake; and six sisters, Shirley Beard, Goshen, Sharon Fear of Wolf Lake, Melba (John) Moorehouse of Albion, Lana Frick of Albion, Lois Starkey of Wolf Lake, and June Treble of Wolf Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Loena Starkey; and one grandson, Joshua Noble. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Associate Pastor Eddie Jones of the Churubusco Nazarene Church officiating. Visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Burial will follow service in Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, Noble County. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Columbia City American Legion Post 98.
