Mildred Hodnett Chilton of Zebulon, NC passed away Friday, August 24th. She was born on May 25, 1926 in Danville, VA to Harry and Lottie Burke Hodnett, the youngest of three children, Frances Lewis of Durham, NC and Margaret of Danville, VA, deceased.
Mildred was married to Clyde Chilton, deceased 1989, of Zebulon, NC. She was a career businesswoman who worked for the phone company during WWII. She and her husband, Clyde owned and operated the Sears Catalog Franchise in Zebulon from 1969 to 1977.
Mildred was active with the American Heart Association directing regional fundraisers in Richmond Co. and other North Carolina counties.
She is survived by son, Steve Chilton and his wife, Carolyn, of Zebulon; son, Tommy Chilton and his wife, Pam, of Raleigh and daughter, JoAnne Chilton of Wendell; seven grandchildren, Heather (Joey) Hughes of Lititz, PA, Stephen (Meaghan) Chilton of Henrico, VA, Laura (John) Midgett of Wilmington, NC, Jessica (Chris) Scarboro of Clayton, NC, Luke (Ellen) Chilton of Apex, NC, April Strickland of Zebulon, NC and Blake Strickland of Zebulon, NC and twelve great-grandchildren. One son, David Wayne, passed at birth.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 3pm at Zebulon United Methodist Church with the memorial service following at 4pm. Family will be at the home of JoAnne Chilton, 3970 Wendell Blvd, Wendell, NC at other times.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated.
