WINTERSET - Miriam Deborah Standing, 93, of Winterset, died of leukemia on Nov. 17, 1996 at Winterset Care Center South. Funeral services were held Nov. 22 at Bear Creek Conservative Friends Meeting House in rural Earlham with burial in Bear Creek Cemetery.

Miss Standing was born Dec. 7, 1902 to Alfred and Alice (Crew) Standing on a farm in Adams Township in rural Dallas County. She attended Scattergood Board School in West Brank, Olney Boarding School in Barnsville, Ohio and Iowa State College. She graduated from Penn College in 1927.

She taught at the Indian school at Tanesassa, N.Y. and at the Scattergood Boarding School. Following her teaching career, she spent most of the rest of her life farming, first with her father and then she ran a dairy herd until she became ill in 1991. In Nov., 1991 she moved to Winterset Care Center South.

Miss Standing was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Gordon Standing. She is survived by one sister, Eleanor Standing Hutzell of Algona, two nieces and two nephews.
