Albany Evening Journal, Dec. 17, 1932 “We regret to learn that our esteemed fellow citizen, Mr. William James, is not expected to survive an apoplectic shock with which he was visited on Saturday.”
William James’ will indicates his wife is Catherine. His will instructs to allow money for the education and advancement of the children of her deceased sister, Jannette B. Gourley. Children listed in the will are: William and Henry. Others provided for in William’s will are: Catherine Tillman, sister of his former wife, Elizabeth, deceased; Charlotte James, daughter of his deceased brother John James; Susan Duffy widow of John Duffy late of the city of New York; nephew John James, son of his deceased brother John James. Another son, Augustus James, is an executor. The wife of Augustus is Elizabeth. Anna McBridge James is the daughter of his son, William, and Lydia James is the daughter of his deceased son, Robert. Additional sons are John, Edward and Howard. Grandson Robert is the son of his deceased son, Robert. Daughters, Jannette, Catherine and Ellen. Granddaughter, Mary Ann King, whose father is James King (one of the executors).
According to the cemetery card, Mr. William James became a resident of Albany in 1793. He died at the age of 60 yrs., 11 mos. and 20 days. Albany Chronicles called him a "public spirited merchant".
