Jo Ann was born on November 16, 1937, in Statesboro, Ga., to the late Robert Cecil Brooks and Annie Lou Akins.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wallace Bell Sr.; a son, Jack Wallace Bell Jr.; a brother, Robert C. "Bobby" Brooks Jr.; a sister, Loretta Kay Brooks; and her second husband, Lee M. Collins.
Jo Ann graduated from Commercial High School in 1955. She retired from Union Camp after more than 16 years of service.
She was a faithful and active member of the Savannah Progressive Primitive Baptist Church for over 40 years.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey David Bell (Jodi); grandchildren, Kristina Chang (Carlos), Jacob Bell (Mary Katherine) and Faran Bell; a sister, Lynda Murphy (David); a sister-in-law, Angie Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bethany in Statesboro, Hospice Savannah and Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro for the care given to Mrs. Jo Ann. Also to a special friend and neighbor, Debbie Ruiz, who helped care for Jo Ann for several years, and a special cousin, Sylvia Prosser.
The visitation will be Saturday, August 25, from 11 a.m. until noon at Baker McCullough Funeral Home on Highway 80 in Garden City and the service will be at noon in the chapel of the funeral home. A private burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be given to the Savannah Progressive Primitive Baptist Church, Ogeechee Area Hospice or Savannah Hospice.
