A son of John and Mary (Masher) Crouse, he married Ferne Schomberg on June 14, 1944 at Danville, Illinois. The couple had no children. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 and served in the cavalry during WWI. He retired in 1965 after working many years for the Illinois Power and Light Company as a driver of interurban streetcars and then as a driver for the Twin City Bus Lines, which was then located at 501 N. Fifth Street, Champaign, Illinois. Active in several Masonic Organizations, he served as Worship Master of Western Star Lodge No. 240 A.F. and A.M. 1958-1959.
