VINEMONT - Funeral for Scott Allen Townsend, 50, of Vinemont, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Terry Taylor officiating. Burial in McKendree Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Townsend died on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at his residence. He was born March 4, 1968, in Morgan County to Don RickyTownsend and Wanda Gayle Turney Townsend. Scott was a graduate of Hartselle High School, class of 1987.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy for four years as an E5 Gearman.

In 1990, he was presented with awards from the U.S. Navy, the State of Alaska and the Fish and Wildlife game division, for heroically rescuing a boy and girl from a capsizing boat in water that was at a temperature of 36 degrees. He also loved racing and was employed as a diesel mechanic at Merriman's Auto Repair.

Survivors include one son, Lucas Townsend and girlfriend, Paige Thompson; parents, Don and Gayle Turney Townsend; two sisters, Crystal Townsend Moore (Zac) and Mary Ann Taylor (Terry); nephew, Austin Roy and niece, Ashley Roy.

Pallbearers will be Terry Taylor, Tony Merriman, Zac Merriman, Laramie Townsend, Larry Townsend and Joey Thompson.
