Services for Walter Marion Newman, 94, of Chandler, are scheduled for Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Memory Gardens Chapel in Victoria.
Walter Marion Newman was born in Caldwell, Texas on August 17, 1924, to Walter Lee Newman and Mary Alice McGregor Newman and passed away August 18, 2018, celebrating 94 years and 1 days of life. He graduated from Galena Park High School in Houston, Texas. Upon graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Lila Mae George. They spent a whole two weeks together before he shipped out to serve in the WWII Pacific Theater as a Navy Seabee. Walt returned home from the war to Lila and a two-year-old daughter, Gola Ann, whom he had never seen. He eventually went to work for DuPont in Victoria for 30 years before retiring.
Walt was proceeded in death by his parents, by Lila, by granddaughter Melora Newman by Lila’s parents Gladys and Travis George, by brother-in-law and wife Eddie and Joyce George, by nephew Everett George, by sister-in-law Wanda Newman, and by Christine Robinson his second wife.
He is survived by Alton Lee Newman, his brother, by Gola Ann Linke and husband Olin, by John Allen Newman (his son) and wife Candace, by grandchildren Cecil Linke Jr and Sue, Suzette Villarreal and John, Clint Linke and Stephanie, John Clayton Newman, and by great grandchildren Kristen and husband Matt, Cecil III, Alexis, Avery, Wyatt, Austin, and Jaryn, by nieces Judy Sparks, Jill Dworsky, and Kim George and Sharon Cobb and families, and nephew David Newman and family. He is also survived by Christine’s children, son Jim Robinson and Wife Lisa, and daughters Carolyn Taylor and Margaret Hudson and families.
Visitation and remembrance will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from 6-9 PM at the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
