Dennis Mark Petersen
May 25, 1935 - December 14, 2017
Dennis passed away peacefully at Dixie Regional Hospital at the age of 82. A graveside service will take place on his birthday, May 25th, in the northeast area of the Millville/Nibley cemetery at noon. A Celebration of his Life following at 1 p.m. at Chuck-a-Rama. Reservations are required to be seated in the area. If you plan to attend, notify Kaye by email ([email protected]) or cell 435-881-5882 by May 24th.
Dennis was born May 25, 1935, in Hyrum, Utah, to Eugene (GENIE) And Leora Nielsen Petersen. He graduated from South Cache High School and Utah State University. He went to professional photo schools and studied under Ansel Adams. His adult life was spent in Hyrum, Providence, Tremonton, Fish Haven-Bear Lake West, Idaho. He especially appreciated the care he received at the Rocky Mountain Care facility in Logan. He and Kaye lived in St. George, Utah, at the time of passing at the Dixie Regional Hospital from complications from aging.
He had fond memories of growing up in Hyrum, telling stories of Blacksmith Fork Canyon and Sheep Creek where his dad and uncle ran sheep or out in Hansel Valley on the dry farm. This led to a great love for the outdoors and especially for hunting and fishing. One of his greatest highlights was hunting with his brother Jay in Alaska and Canada for grizzlies, black bear and wolves. If anyone has been to his Bear Lake home, you saw his grizz, black bear and wolf rugs displayed fondly on the walls. Dennis was a master mechanic and had a tool for any application. He could literally fix anything. Dennis liked big boy toys. When it came to snowmobiles, 4-wheelers etc., he could often be found in the garage with one torn apart. And a tool collection to envy. He loved to have the fastest and latest snowmobile, toys of the day, and electronics (cameras, phones, TV). He especially loved snowmobiling in the Cache National Forest. He knew every trail also in Island Park and Yellowstone National Park. He took his family and friends there for many wonderful adventures including going to Alice's Restaurant by snowmobile. Dennis loved boating and was the greatest host captain on Bear Lake. (Sunset Cocktail Cruise.) He spent hours trolling on the lake or waterskiing with his family, grandkids and friends to play in the summer sun or find a sandy beach for a picnic. At night he would barbecue the best steaks around and could rival any steakhouse or dining out at Cooper's @Bear Lake West. He also enjoyed golfing and going with the Dirty Dozen and Motorcycle rides while in Tremonton. He loved traveling around in his motorhome or trailer roughing it, but had to have TV. Dennis had a great love for Hawaii. He was always looking forward to the next vacation. Dennis will be remembered for his generosity and for his fun spirited nature. He had many lifelong friends and was always buying dinner and went out of his way to make others have a wonderful time. Dennis, thanks for all the wonderful adventures and memories. You will be missed dearly. We love you!
He is survived by his wife Kaye Evans Petersen, his children: Mark Petersen (Diane), Teresa Petersen Bloky (Randy), Julie Ann Petersen Lund and step daughter, Kristi Evans Andersen (Scott); Delone Petersen Bailey, sister; grandchildren: Andrew Bloky, Elizabeth Blotky, Larry Lund, Sean Petersen, step grandchildren: Andrew and Jacob Andersen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Rhea Petersen Lundahl, Ruth Petersen Borlase, (Doug), Jay Petersen (Bara), Darrell Petersen (Karen) and brother-in-law, Wesley Bailey.
Kaye can be reached at [email protected].
