Lloyd DeVere Long was born on August 23, 1920.

He passed away August 20, 2018 at Cottage Wood Senior Communities in Rochester, MN.

Lloyd was born to Samuel and Maude Long. He had six brothers and two sisters.

He married Laura Husser on September 10, 1949. Together they had seven children and 18 grandchildren.

Lloyd worked on the farm helping his family and worked for Western Union delivering telegrams.

During WWII he enlisted and served in the Army from 1942-1945 and was honorably discharged.

He worked in construction on the Mayo Clinic Building, St. Marys Hospital, the IBM building, Assissi Heights and numerous downtown buildings in Rochester. He worked for Waters Conley as a foreman, farmed outside of Eyota in Skunk Hollow, worked for Tempo Dept Store, Bekins Moving Company, was a parking lot attendant, a custodian for Lourdes High School and for the Rochester Art Center. He was a Co-owner/ Operator of the Pla-Mor Ballroom. He used his GI bill to learn Television Repair.

Lloyd enjoyed meeting and socializing with lots of people, he enjoyed ballroom dancing, singing, the great outdoors, camping, fishing, time with his grandchildren, animals, and he loved to travel. He helped his children see much of the United States. Lloyd enjoyed his Honor Flight to Washington DC, traveling to Arizona in the winter and also to Texas to see his sister, Leila.

He always had stories to tell, and talked about all his family relation going back generations.

Lloyd is survived by children, Carol Lovelace, Richard (Sharon) Long, Diane (Michael) Undeberg, Patty (Nick) Goodwin, Sally (Richard Joyce) Zecchin, Randy (Cyndi) Long, son-in-law, Gary Geszvain; sister, Leila Ross; 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vilas, Donald, Cecil, Ronald, Larry, Jim Long; sister, Violet Vagt; grandson, John Lovelace; and daughter, Janet Geszvain. He lost his wife, Laura, in 2010 after 61 years of marriage.

He lived a life full of hard work, family, and concern and love for all he knew.

Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, MN with Rev. David Mead officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 27th and one hour prior to service at Macken Funeral Home.
