He married Peggy (Johnson) Roy in 1954. Gerald owned and operated Grand Rapids Transfer and Storage and was a regional circulation manager for the Minneapolis Star Tribune until retiring in 2005. As a member of the Grand Rapids Fireman Department for 20 years, member of the Grand Rapids Jaycee’s, Loyal Order of the Moose, Knights of Columbus, Star of the North Lions and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, he dedicated his life to helping others.
Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, putzing in the garage and cabin, but mostly spending time with family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Vicky (Roy) Russell; brothers, Robert and James Roy; sisters-in law, Jane and Jeanne Roy, Susan Johnson; and brother–in law, Errol Johnson.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Peggy Roy; daughters:Debbie (Paul) Clemen, Kathy (Tim) Wilson; sons: Randy (Deb) Roy, Mark (Laura) Roy and James Roy; brothers, Hank (Katie) Roy, Larry Roy, Tom (Rosemary) Roy, Denny (Wendy) Roy; sister, Nancy (Jim) Arnhold; brother-in law, John Johnson; and sister-in law Patty Johnson; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MN.
