Born Dec. 11, 1953, Joseph Stanley Shirley was a resident of Burson. He died from cancer peacefully at home surrounded by family members and received his crown of glory on Aug. 10, 2016.

Joe was a Winters High School graduate, a union carpenter for many years, following in his father’s footsteps, as well as a staff member of Teen Challenge San Francisco for five years. During his last two years, he was the manager at Men of Integrity House in Burson, California.

Joe was a member of Glory Bound Fellowship. He loved to play baseball, fish, golf and spend time with family. He was an avid sports fan of the 49ers, Giants and Warriors. He loved his family and his many animals. He had many friends in the community. Being clean and sober himself for eight years, he tirelessly spent his days helping others find “The Way” out of addiction.

Joe is survived by his son Joseph Ryan Shirley of Sacramento; his brothers, Quinton Shirley and Jim Shirley, both of Winters; sisters, Brenda Smith of Valley Springs and Kathy Ralph of Rancho Cordova; sister-in-law Kim Shirley, and brothers-in-law Gary Smith and Glenn Ralph; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-great niece and nephew.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Jewell Shirley, brothers Ron Shirley and Wesley Shirley, and sister-in-law Louise Shirley, all from Winters, California.

A memorial service was held on Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. at Glory Bound Fellowship. 3061 West Highway 12 in Valley Springs.
