Andrew Cooney was born in 1922 in New York, USA to Terence & Kate (Nee Prior). At the age of 8, Andrew and his family were living in Richmond St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and in 1940 had returned (with his parents) to New York living at Taylor Ave, Bronx (his occupation, Breakage Runner for R. Hoe and Co). On the 16th Oct 1942, Andrew enlisted into the Air Corp and was signed to 456th Bomb, 747th Squadron. He marries Janeth Baldwin Stevens on the 18th Sep 1944 at Boise, Ada, Idaho after eloping. 5 months later, 2nd Lt Andrew J Cooney was killed on a mission over northern Italy, a co-pilot aboard a B-24 tail #4295313 (piloted by 1st Lt William J Cartwright), on 28 Feb 1945 at the age of 23. 2Lt David W Lander was also killed in the same mission. Andrew was buried 4 and a half years later at St Raymonds Cemetery.
