H.M.T. "Holdene"
HMT Holdene was a Fishing Trawler, built in 1915 by Smith's of Middlesborough, England.
It was requisitioned, and was being used by the Royal Navy as a Minesweeper.
On 2 February 1917, it was sunk by a mine laid by a German Submarine UC-11, east of the Shipwash Light Vessel, located in the North Sea, off Harwich. All 7 crew were lost.
Birth.
John Holland, son of Michael Holland and Kate Holland, formerly Driscoll, was born on 15 December 1881, at Meelmane, Lislee, Courtmacsherry.
His birth was registered in Timoleague District on 28 December 1881, by his father, who was a Fisherman.
His father died before 1901.
In the 1911 census, John was recorded as a 29 year old Agricultural Labourer, living at home with his widowed mother Catherine. John was then the eldest of the 6 children living with her.
The family lived in a 3 roomed cottage.
