WATERBURY – Elizabeth Ahrens, 84, passed away unexpectedly at Saint Mary’s Hospital on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Raymond F. Ahrens.

Elizabeth born on Nov. 22, 1933, in Waterbury, daughter of the late James and Anne (Taylor) Roberton and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Frank Caputo. Elizabeth was a lifelong Waterbury resident, graduated from Sacred Heart High School and worked for the City of Waterbury School System as a Public Heath Aide for many years until her retirement.

She enjoyed traveling and shopping and was always happiest when surrounded by her loving family, especially her grandchildren. She was a parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Church.

Among her survivors are her children, Raymond R. Ahrens of Waterbury, Ann Fruin and her husband, Mark, of Waterbury, Lori Diorio and her husband, Manny, of Wolcott and Jean Murphy of Waterbury. She also leaves her cousin, Charles Taylor, with whom she was raised and considered him to be like her brother. She also leaves her grandchildren, Carolyn, Melissa, Angela, Manny Jr. Elizabeth, Rhiana, Matthew, Amanda and Alyssa.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ahrens will be on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from Casey’s Eastside Memorial Home, 1987 E. Main St. at Southmayd Road, Waterbury, to SS Peter and Paul Church, 167 Southmayd Road, Waterbury, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Committal services will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury.

Relatives and friends may visit with Elizabeth’s family on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
