Survivors include his wife, Frances A. Vaughn; children, Mitzi George (Donald), Kim McAlexander (Bobby), Chris Watson, (Mikee), Trudy Bateman (Danny) and Gene Vaughn; sister JoAnne Foley; 14 grandchildren.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 25 years, retiring as a Petty Officer 1st Class. He earned the Armed Forces Expedition Medal and Navy Expeditionary Medal for his service during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After retirement from the Navy, Gayle drove a school bus 25 years for Henry County.
Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
