Louisville - Quentin Sharpenstein, age 74, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on August 17th, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stroud and Connie Oleta McClure Sharpenstein; and half siblings, Justin Sharp, Wanda Rae McKinley, and Atha Lortz. He served 26 years in the military, with the West Point United States Military Academy Band, and the 202nd KY Army National Guard Band. His music career took him around the world, performing with The Hudson Philharmonic, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Derby Dinner Playhouse, Broadway Series Productions, and many other creative ventures. Quentin took great pride in founding The Derby City Brass Band and The Commonwealth Brass Band. He also found joy in leading and/or playing with groups such as The Rascals of Ragtyme, The Advocate Brass Band, The Swedish American Dixieland Band, and the Vo Jazz Trio. Quentin was a retired music teacher with Jefferson County Public Schools, as well as, a private music teacher, sharing his love of music with hundreds of students. Quentin will lovingly be missed by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Paula Wieseman Sharpenstein. Quentin will also be forever remembered by his daughter, Jessica Sharpenstein; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jessica Corley; his grandchildren, Jordan and Ben Corley; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Memorial gifts can be made in Quentin's honor to The Louisville Federation of Musicians Local 11-637, 1436 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40204-1413; or, to the St. Andrew United Church of Christ Music Fund, 2608 Browns Lane, Louisville, KY 40220.
His service with be at noon, Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with burial following in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, KY. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 2-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
