George W. Newman, 78, or Mena, Arkansas passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday August 17, 2018 in Paris Arkansas. He was born January 12, 1940 in Blue Mountain, Arkansas to Conard L. and Zella Ann Starling Newman. George attended school in Booneville before moving to Chowchilla California where he graduated in the class of 1958.
George served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany then returned to California for several years before returning to Arkansas. George had a small engine repair shop in Blue Mountain where he helped many in the surrounding communities. George loved to hunt and crappie fish on Blue Mountain Lake.
Survived by his wife Velma Ruth of the home, daughter Ruth Calloway and family of Mena, sons Jeffrey Lynn Newman of California, Tod Wesley Newman and wife of Subiaco, Arkansas, and Charles Edward Newman (Charlie) of West Sacramento California, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday August 25th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Blue Mountain Arkansas Cemetery under the direction or Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville, Arkansas with prayer and service given by Don Cochran.
