Mrs. Emily Sue Carter, 86, went home to her heavenly father on August 16, 2018. She was born in Forsyth County to Louis Clinton Barnes and Beatrice Shelton Barnes.

After graduating from Hanes High School she promptly married her childhood sweetheart, Phil. She worked for a year before joining him at Fort Bragg. Once his service to our country was completed, they returned to the Winston-Salem area where she found her true calling as a wife and mother, both of which she embraced with passion and dedication.

Sue was a strong, selfless woman with a big heart and kind soul. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ, and her family beyond measure. Sue was a long time active member of Fairview Moravian Church then Friedberg Moravian Church, and cherished both of her church families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Louis Clinton Barnes, Jr.; step-mother, Alee Harrelson Barnes; sister, Frances Barnes Stewart and brother-in-law, D.W. Stewart.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Phillip Eugene Carter; children, Phillip Craig Carter (Jane); Susan Carter McMurry; Neil Alan Carter (Teresa); Keri Carter Williams (Jim); grandchildren, Cheryl Carter Thompson (Carl); Beth Carter; Travis McMurry (Tim); Justin McMurry; Emily McMurry Tucker (Wes); Adam Carter; Aaron Carter (Jessie); Ben Williams and Kaci Williams Long (Will); great grandchildren, Ty Thompson; Eli Thompson; Kami McMurry; Charlie Carter; Macie Carter and Finley Long; nephews, David Stewart (Cindy); Dennis Stewart (Sandy); niece, Dee Stewart Holcomb (Chris); and other extended family.

We were blessed by her life and while she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing that she is fully restored and in the presence of our savior.
