September 26, 1929 August 17, 2018 Walter Gordon (Potts) Cundiff, 88, of Rocky Mount, left this earth to begin his eternal life with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 17, 2018. He was born on September 26, 1929 as the only child of the late Charlie Gordon Cundiff and Ada Pasley Cundiff. In 2005, he lost his wife of 56 years, Jane Ellen Abshire Cundiff. Potts is survived by his only child, Annette Cundiff Board and his "favorite son-in-law" Benny Board; and his much loved grandson and namesake, Walter Benjamin Board. Our papa was a blessing to us and guided us with his generous love, wisdom, kindness, and optimism. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Jackie Abshire and Marie Abshire; nieces; nephews; and many faithful friends. Potts graduated from Rocky Mount High School in 1946 and until his illness still enjoyed a monthly lunch with some of his classmates. He was a lifelong member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church and a founding member of Franklin County Rescue Squad. He worked at Norfolk and Western Railroad for over 42 years as a welder and fabricator until his retirement in 1990. Throughout his life Potts enjoyed furniture making with his father, hunting, fishing, long talks on the porch, "do-licious" food, beach trips and belly laughs. He looked forward to Thursday's at DQ with good music and special friends. We will never forget his hilarious sense of humor and his sweet boyish smile. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2018 at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church followed by services at 2 p.m. officiated by the Rev. William Waller. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park.
