Obituary of Wilma Faulkner
Wilma Corley Faulkner departed this life quietly in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Corsicana, Texas, at the age of 89 years. The youngest of three sisters, Wilma Corley was born to Willie M. Corley and Leila Mae Corley in Van Zandt County, October 10, 1926. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Clever Carter and Gayle Jernigan. Mrs. Faulkner also survived her husband of many years, William Hugh “Dick” Faulkner who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her son, William Robert Faulkner of Brownsboro, Texas. Wilma and Dick Faulkner traveled widely by virtue of his career in the United States Air Force and were deployed in Montana and California, as well as Newfoundland and Morocco. After retirement from the service of the United States, they settled in Austin, Texas and began other careers- Dick with the University of Texas system and Wilma with several business concerns, including United Health Care, where she was employed in various accounting functions. Upon their second retirements, they removed to Navarro County, Texas and settled in a new home on Richland-Chambers Lake where they enjoyed a number of interests and pursuits. Wilma Faulkner held strong beliefs in areas of politics, family relationships and responsibilities, and her work. She was a person who seized opportunities and accepted challenges. Mrs. Faulkner was sometimes called upon to perform unusual tasks during her husband’s required duty absences. She enjoyed recounting exploits such as moving livestock across the country alone, and changing a flat tire in a remote pass of the Atlas Mountains in North Africa. Mrs. Corley was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics and reveled in the basketball careers of Larry Byrd and Kevin McHale. Her vitality, self-assurance, and plain speaking earned many friends in wide-spread areas of the world. Her strong personality and fierce insistence on what she believed will be long-remembered by those whose lives she touched.
