On Wednesday, August 8th, 2018, Eileen Patricia Adlet, mother of three children and many adopted children in spirit, passed away at the age of 61.

Eileen was born on July 26th, 1957 in Opa-Locka, Florida to Henry and Francis Adlet. She had one daughter, Crystal, two sons, Christopher and Stephen, and 4 grandchildren, Callie, Marleigh, Riley, and Avery. I could follow the usual Obituary format but she taught her children that they didn’t need to follow reason, particularly when at the expense of emotional expression and feeling. I could tell you what she did for a living or what she wanted to do, but if you knew her - you would know that she had a passionate heart that showed up in every way a passionate heart can in this life and she did everything possible to teach her children and anyone she met that same principle. Often misunderstood and misjudged, this created the woman who did anything possible to create the life she hoped for - moving from place to place and working many jobs, as a single mother she strived to find and create the home she believed in for herself and the family she strived to have part of it. Her wild heart and passionate expression showed up in her laughs and in her tears. Some pulled away while others pulled in closer, but all those she met learned from the expression of that powerful heart. She was an artist whose main instrument was not the piano or paintbrush (both of which she played beautifully) but the strings of the heart. This showed up mostly in the way she raised her children and spoke of them to others. Like most art pieces, up close this looked very different from a few steps back. But when one examines her life’s work, what is evident is that every stroke on the canvas was an important part in creating a work of art - a masterpiece - that will continue long after its creation and long after her passing. When she was younger you could see that passion in her great thanksgiving feasts - which often meant great sacrifices to put the food on the table for her family and anyone else who wanted to join in - strangers and outcasts all a part of the same circle. Through the years that same passion would be evident in how fiercely she loved and hoped. And towards the end it became the place she could retreat to with her grandchildren when her body began to fail her. This ability to persist on even as her body and mind struggled to keep up, will live on in the stories her legacies will continue to share and express - her love, emotion, and passion - the greatest gift an artist and mother can leave behind.

Eileen was preceded in death by her mother, Francis, and her father, Henry. Her passion and expression of the heart is survived and continued within her own children. Stephen (who works by healing hearts and people with medicine), and wife Kim along with their children Riley and Avery. Crystal (who works by protecting the hearts of children as she finds them safe home and refuge - all the while as she maintains a strong mother for her children and extended family to Eileen’s legacy), and her husband Jim along with their children Callie and Marleigh. Christopher (who heals hearts by listening to their stories and helping them find home and healing within). She is also survived by her siblings, Robert (Beverly) Adlet, David Adlet and sister, Teresa (Keith) Skipper as well as many great nieces and nephews.

In remembering Eileen’s life, we will be scattering her ashes across America in places that she had always enjoyed going to and in places she had dreamt of visiting one day with her growing family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you spend time with your own children or loved ones, send someone a favorite song or cook someone your favorite dish, and do something that brings passion to your day and to your life.
