He attended school in Warren and later received his GED and an Honorary Diploma from Warren High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War, and received the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.
He and Emily J. Schwandt were married on August 22, 1958 in Virginia. Neil worked at the US Steel Minntac plant in various capacities – retiring as a Forklift Operator. He was a member of the VFW, the McDavitt Volunteer Fire Dept., was a Township Maintenance Foreman for the Parks and Recreation Department, and was a Fire Warden for 45 years. He enjoyed military and US history, and working on his hobby farm.
Neil is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years: Emily; daughters: Susan (John) Sanders, Betty Anderson, and Gina Permar; grandchildren: Jeremiah and Mary Sanders, Sterling (Dawn) Watts, Bronwen (Andrew Burge) Watts, Michael Garcia, and Jarred Permar; and numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 16 siblings.
Inurnment in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
