Born in Mount Joy Twp., Lancaster Co., she was the daughter of the late David S. and Katie H. Greiner Hollinger. She was the wife of John H. Grosh. They celebrated their 67th anniversary in March of this year.

She was a 1948 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. She was a homemaker, and managed the family catering business for 18 years. Alta was a faithful member of Mount Calvary Church in Elizabethtown, where she taught children's Sunday school, was a Pioneer Girls leader for many years, and taught the women's Seekers Sunday School class for 24 years. She also taught Christian Women's Bible Coffees throughout Lancaster County for 18 years. Alta earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Education from Lancaster Bible College at age 58.
