Stanley loved his profession, his family, and the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian church. He greatly valued the Lookout Mountain community, that provided much love and support to his family over the years. His family is forever grateful for the loving care he also received in later years from his caregivers.
Stanley loved hiking with his hiking buddies, tennis at the Fairyland Club, and sailing their catamaran at Pawleys Island every summer. He loved investing and politics and never shied away from a heated debate of either.
Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Walter Payne.
He is survived by his loyal wife of 60 years, Mary Suttle Payne of Lookout Mtn., his daughter, Mary Catherine (Tom) Overby of Vienna , Va., his son, Stanley Ross (Sally) Payne, Jr. of Charlotte NC. and Walter (Pam) Freeman Payne of Denver, Co. and their eight grandchildren Logan, Austin, Thomas, Freeman, Suttle, Fulton, Fuller, and Lucius.
Visitation will be in the reception room at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church from 11:00am to Noon on Monday, 8/20/18, followed by the Memorial Service in the Chapel.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Church of the First Born, 3418 St. Elmo Ave, Chattanooga, Tn 37409, which Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church has worked with in partnership in support of numerous causes dear to Stanleys heart.
