Janie Alvarez Young was born September 16, 1945 in Stamford, Texas and died on Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Arlington, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Julio and Frances (Escobedo) Alverez. Janie was educated in the Stamford public school system and continued her education at Abilene Christian University where she earned a degree in education.

Janie was a lifelong resident of Stamford where she taught at Stamford High School for over 35 years. She loved her students at SHS. She was a beloved teacher to many students throughout her tenure at SISD. Janie retired in 2010 and moved to Arlington, TX to be near her family. Janie enjoyed family time with her loved ones, especially her sisters and aunt. Her grandsons held a special place in her heart and she was very proud of all of them. Janie enjoyed the shopping trips and going out to eat with her sisters and joining her cousins for a little pampering with manicures and pedicures. She was a member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church in Stamford.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, son John Thomas Young, Jr and a nephew, Eric Alvarez.

Survivors include: 1 son, Michael Shane Young and wife Lori of Dallas, Texas; 4 grandsons, Jack Young, Riley Young both of Tyler, Texas, Michael Shane Young and wife Savannah, and Justin Young all of Abilene, Texas; great granddaughter, Aubrey Young of Abilene, Texas; 3 sisters, Mary Rodriquez of Everman, Texas, Adella Ortiz of Rockwall, Texas and Olga Vasquez of Mansfield, Texas, 2 brothers; Rey Alvarez of Stamford, Texas and Rene Alvarez of Saginaw, Texas; 1 aunt, Mercedes Perez of Arlington, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and god children.

Rosary will be held Friday, August 17, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel (807 S. Columbia Stamford, TX). Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 18th at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Chacko Thadathil officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
