William was a Civil War Soldier born in Robbinston Maine. He was a member of Co A 15th Maine Inf enlisting from Robbinston on 11.21.1861 and mustered out July 5, 1866 after a re-enlistment of Veteran Volunters Jan 25, 1864. He left service in Charlestown SC.

1900 Pembroke he was living in the household of George and Nellie Antone age 56 and single. He was working in the sardine factory.

William was later a blacksmith and died at the Veteran's Hospital suffering from heart valve problems. He was single and age 68 at death.

Note: he died perhaps later than Jan 16, 1912
Suggested edit: 1910 is the date that William entered the Veterans Hospital at Togus, Maine. He was discharged in 1912, and it didn't say discharged for death - although that might have been the reason. At any rate, he lived at least until 16 January 1912. Interestingly, I couldn't find a record in Maine, Death Records, 1761-1922, at least not for this particular William H. Johnson.
