Joe worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years with various construction companies; however, most of his career was spent working with Central Construction in Indianola and McAninch Corporation in Des Moines. Joe retired in 1990.
Joe was a member of Local #234 of Des Moines, The L D Club of Lorimor, The Lions, the Union County Sheriff's Posse and the Central States Archeology Society. Joe lived life to the fullest, whether it was his love of the outdoors hunting, fishing, mushrooming, collecting Native American artifacts or working in his masterful gardens. At one time he hunted with a gun but later in life he chose to hunt with a video camera and he and his family spent many hours watching what he caught on film.
