Louise Dowdy Gray transitioned from her life on earth to her heavenly home on August 15, 2018. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. She was born in Currituck County on August 20, 1933 to the late Richard Norris and Elsie Barnard Dowdy. Louise was a faithful member of Powells Point Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as church treasurer for many years and enjoyed time shared with Tater Shed Quilters of Powells Point Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Melvin Lee “Peanut” Gray and two brothers, Richard Dowdy and James “Jake” Dowdy.

She is survived by three daughters, Denise Fuqua (Robert), Diana Strother, and Vivian Whelan (Steve); her brothers, William “Bud” Dowdy (Judy), Tommy Dowdy (Charlene) and Sam Dowdy (Phyllis); her sisters, Jeanette Pitt and Mary Lee Waterfield; grandchildren, Erica Strother Marois (Ian), Rachel Strother, and Caitlyn Strother; a sister-in-law, Janet Dowdy; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Powells Point Baptist Church with Minister Eugene McLawhorn and Pastor Casey Carlton officiating. Burial will be in Powells Point Baptist Church Cemetery.
