Dr. Jay Adams, born March 6, 1932, in Oak Park, Illinois, passed away in his home in Brentwood, California, on May 30, 2015.

Jay was the kind and loving husband for nearly 53 years of Nancy Adams, father of son Daniel Adams (Laura), and daughter Janet Adams (Michael Brando), and devoted grandfather to Nathan, Nicole, and Elizabeth Adams.

Jay moved to Chula Vista, California, finished high school in the San Diego area, attended San Diego State, and transferred to his beloved University of California, Berkeley. Jay was a 1956 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Optometry School.

He served for two years in the United States Army and married Nancy on Aug. 5, 1962. Jay and Nancy resided initially in Pacifica, where Daniel was born, moved to South San Francisco, where Janet was born at home, and in 1973 moved to Half Moon Bay, where they resided for 21 years. Jay commuted over Devil's Slide daily to his optometry practice in Linda Mar Center in Pacifica, where he worked for 35 years.

Jay and Nancy loved to travel, especially on driving trips around the United States to visit national parks. He was an avid sports fan and attended numerous University of California football games and San Francisco Giants games, including back to the days of the San Francisco Seals at Kezar Stadium.

Jay is also survived by his sister, Mercedes Nickelson; brothers-in-law Tom Dilley, Russ Dilley and Mike Nickelson; sisters-in-law Pat Dilley, Rowena Dilley and Dorothy Brown; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Phyllis Adams .

Jay loved Hawaii, and a ceremony will be conducted there to scatter his ashes at sea in July. In Jay's memory, the family appreciates donations to the University of California School of Optometry.
