Evelyn Rose Butler, age 85 of Vandalia, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.

Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia. Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00pm on Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia with Rev. Jason T. Doke, S.T.L. officiating. Burial will be at the St. Clement Cemetery. Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn was born November 20, 1932, in the family home at St. Clement the daughter of Joseph T. and Mamie Behlmann Scherder. She married Richard “Dick” Butler June 2, 1954 at St. Clement Catholic Church. He preceded her in death September 28, 2017.

Survivors include children Lawrence (Sandy) Butler of Columbia, Mark (Diana) Butler of Vandalia, Carol (David) Besselsen of Tucson, AZ, Monte Butler of Troy; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 8 siblings.

Evelyn grew up in rural Bowling Green, attending St. Clement Catholic School and graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1951. She moved to Vandalia in 1962. She worked for Pike County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office, Bobby Brooks Garment Factory and owned and operated Ev’s Shoe Closet from 1983 until she retired.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia where she was active in the Ladies Sodality. Evelyn was also a member of the VFW Auxillary. Evelyn enjoyed family get togethers, walking, and gardening. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
