Kevin Dale Scott, age 59, died in his home in North Mankato on Thursday, August 9, 2018.

Celebration of Kevin's Life will be held at 1pm, Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary led by Kevin’s friends, Marlene Buker and Adrian Lee. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Military honors and a reception will follow the service at Northview. Pallbearers will include his sons and nephews. Kevin will be buried with graveside services in the Bemis Cemetery, near Watertown, South Dakota, at 3pm on Friday, August 17.

Kevin was born to Merwyn Scott and Janet (Alt) Scott on May 3, 1959 in Watertown, South Dakota. He is one of four children born to that marriage. He went to Watertown High School, and upon graduation, joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 8 years. Kevin was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, and served as an honor guard at the Naval Academy. He re-enlisted and was sent to serve in Beirut, Lebanon. He was on a ship heading to Beirut when news was received of the Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut. He was also one of the first Marines to set foot on Grenada during that engagement.

He was married to Barb (Hopkins) Petersen on August 12, 1988 in Winner, South Dakota. He supported Barb and their son Corey through 5 years of pharmacy school. When Barb graduated in 1993, they moved to Parker, South Dakota. In 1997, they moved to North Mankato, Minnesota, where they have lived ever since.

Kevin worked at MICO in North Mankato until his diagnosis of cancer in 2017. He served as Chief of the North Mankato police reserves for 3 years, and is a member of the Marine Corps League in Mankato, Minnesota.

Kevin will be remembered for his bravery, his humor, and his love of family. He is survived by his wife, Barb; sons and daughters, Corey Petersen (wife Lisa), Jaime Schmeling, Bobby Hoffman (husband Matt), Lindsay Benson (husband Bill), Ryan (wife Jenny) Brenden, and Brandon Scott (fiancé Laura); grandchildren, Chase, Riley, Skyler, Brooklyn, Garret, Madison, Dylan, Chandler, Mariah, Nicholas and Sophia; mother, Janet Scott; siblings, Karla Comrie and Kerry Scott.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Merwin Scott; infant daughter, Nikki Scott; brother, Kenneth Scott.
