Hendersonville - Phoebe Ann Marie Hyde Watkins, 83, of Hendersonville, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Mission Hospitals after a brief illness.

She was born in Stecoah, the daughter of the late Joel A. and Ella Crisp Hyde. She graduated from Stecoah High School, where she was the captain of her basketball team. In 1980 she retired from Berkley Mills as a cloth inspector after 30 years of service. Phoebe was a former member of Balfour Baptist Church and a charter member of Stoney Mountain Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer for many years.

She was a loving and devoted mother of two children, grandmother of eight children, great-grandmother of three children and great-great-grandmother of three children.

Survivors include her husband with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage on May 17, 2004, Joe Watkins; daughter, Jo Ann Watkins Gilreath Fisher of Hendersonville; son, Gary Michael Watkins and wife, Myra, of Laurel Park; grandchildren, Pamela Gilreath Thomas Wright and husband, Mark, Penni Gilreath Cornwell, Carol Gilreath Hyder and husband, Brian, Erik Michael Watkins and wife, Valerie, Gregory Trent Watkins and Heather Watkins Murray and husband, Adam; stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Cody Heaton and husband, Greg, and Lena Cody; great-grandchildren, Candice Hyder Jenkins and Landon OBrian Hyder; step-great-grandchild, Seth Wright; great-great-grandchildren, Cierra Joleigh Jenkins and Benjamin Adam Murray; and step-great-great-grandchild, Lauren Dee Heaton.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stoney Mountain Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Rogers and Thomas Glenn officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.
