JoAnn C. West, 89, of South Jacksonville, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Lincoln, the daughter of Carl and Anna Malerich Rieman. She married Richard M. West on Oct. 10, 1948, in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1984.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter, James (Chris) West of Memphis, TN, Steve (Margi) West of Jacksonville, and Cathy (David) Copeland of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Sara West, Danny (Erin) West, Matt West, Holly (Jose Miguel Burgos) Copeland, Andy West, Emily (Luke) Seymour, Adam West (partner Lauren Hearold), Abby (Chase) Davis, and Ellie (Cole) Wilson; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Linda (Richard) Cully of Normal; and one brother, Robert (Peggy) Rieman of Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Carl Rieman.

Mrs. West was a 1945 graduate of Jacksonville High School, and then graduated from Hardin-Brown Business College in 1947. She began her career as a payroll clerk with Inlow Motors in Jacksonville, and then for MacMurray College, retiring from there after 34 years. She was a founding member, along with her husband and her parents, of Faith Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volunteer work with Passavant Area Hospital and Doorbell Dinners, and was a member of the Emblem Club, the Elks Club and the Moose Lodge. JoAnn was an avid walker, and enjoyed cross-stitching and sewing. She especially loved supporting her grandchildren in all of their activities.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
