LITTLE SWITZERLAND, NC

Carolyn Elaine Jarvis, age 65, a resident of the Little Switzerland, NC community and beloved wife and loving mother of eight children, passed away on August 4, 2005 at Spruce Pine, NC Community Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. The eldest daughter of Charles and Florence Whiley, she was born on September 14, 1939 in Camden, NJ and was rasied in Camden, NJ. Carolyn graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1957, married her first love Robert W. Jarvis the same year and resided primarily in Medford, NJ and Ormond Beach, FL.

Carolyn remained a homemaker for most of her adult life along with employments in retail and the medical community. Some of her many interests included reading, working in her beautiful flower gardens, cooking wonderful meals and baking delicious treats for her large family. The sweet thoughtfulness, personal warmth and gentle tenderness Carolyn extended to those that had the privilege of knowing her will never be forgotten and greatly missed by all who love her.

Carolyn's mother Florence and younger brother Douglas Whiley preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Robert W. Jarvis, residing at the family home in Little Switzerland, NC, eight children including Robert W. Jarvis Jr. and wife Patti of Rock Hill, SC, Cindy MacLellan and husband Terry of Charlotte, NC, John Jarvis of Hudson, NC, Steven Jarvis and wife Charlotte Lee of Mocksville, NC, Mark Jarvis of Gastonia, NC, Susan Hood of Mooresville, NC, Paul Bertram and wife Michelle of Colorado Springs, CO, and David Bertram and wife Kim of Palm Coast, FL. Grandchildren include Brandon Jarvis and wife Brandy of Williamston, SC, Alan Jarvis of Rock Hill, SC; Kimberly, Khristopher, Erik and Nickalas Jones all of Charlotte, NC, Megan MacLellan of Charlotte, NC, Stephanie, Steven Jr. and John (Jack) Jarvis, all of Mocksville, NC, Kristen Jarvis of Gastonia, NC, Nathan and Matthew Hood of Charlotte, NC, Juliet Bertram of Colorado Springs, CO, and Sierra Dawn Bertram of Palm Coast, FL. Great grandson Logan Alden Jarvis resides with his parents Brandon and Brandy in Williamston, SC. Carolyn is also survived by her father Charles Whiley Sr. of Medford, NJ, two sisters Linda Dolezar of Medford, NJ, Kathy Elam of Pottstown, PA, and a brother, Charles Whiley Jr in Florida.

Carolyn's family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to all of those in the medical community who cared for her, including the staffs at Mission-St. Joseph Hospital and the Hope Cancer Center for Women in Asheville, NC, Hospice of Mitchell County, NC and the wonderful staff and volunteers at Spruce Pine Community Hospital. Words alone cannot express our appreciation for the caring compassion extended to Carolyn and her family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday August 13 at Geneva Hall in Little Switzerland. Webb Funeral Home, Spruce Pine, NC, is assisting the Jarvis family.
